MI QUERIDO BARRIO Augmented Reality Exhibition & Tour

PART III of HOME, MEMORY, AND FUTURE EXHIBITION

The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI) commissioned artists to create a virtual tour of El Barrio/East Harlem using augmented reality technology (AR) to highlight the neighborhood’s historic significance and its present-day struggles to persevere. The artists who participated of Mi Querido Barrio (MQB) are Michael Cordero, Bianca DeJesus, Alejandro Epifanio, Kearra Amaya Gopee, Yasmin Hernández, Mariona Lloreta, Andrew J. Padilla, Edwin Pagán, and Oliver Rios. Artists received training in augmented reality technology from pioneer artist Tamiko Thiel. With their AR projects, the artists aim to foster greater awareness of the cultural history of the area’s landmark locations that identify the unique places of East Harlem.

By downloading mobile augmented reality Blippar app to their smartphones and tablets, viewers will be able to tour El Barrio and access the exclusive interactive content that the artists have created.
