Sou Sou! Saturdays: Honoring the Spirit of Juneteenth

  • CARIBBEAN CULTURAL CENTER AFRICAN DIASPORA INSTITUTE 120 East 125th Street New York, NY, 10035 United States (map)

Our Sou Sou! Saturdays family programming returns on June 4th in commemoration of Juneteenth and the spirit of our ancestors who longed for and learned of their freedom on June 19, 1865. All month long we will pay homage to those who came before us, their resilience, indomitable strength, and most importantly their ability to create and inspire despite their circumstances. Our Sou Sou! family programming will honor not only Black Liberation but also Black Futures!

On June 4th from 1 - 5 PM, families with children of all ages will engage the mobile bookstore, Bronx Bound Books, and its curated selection of books by Black and Brown authors. Families will also experience Liberation through Movement, a dance workshop led by VashtiDance Theatre, and learn the fundamentals of creating ancestral instruments like the rain stick with teaching artist Sandra Bell.

Join us for this free event as we honor the past, present, and thriving futures of our African Diaspora.
