Jogo do Corpo. Capoeira e Ancestralidade features a seductive mosaic of combat games on both sides of the Atlantic. The film tells the story of Mestre Cobra Mansa who seeks to understand his Afro-Brazilian heritage, and in particular to explore the ancestry of his art, capoeira. The search for his roots begins in Rio, where Cobra Mansa, at the time a 12-year-old kid, learned capoeira on the street as a means of survival. Capoeira learning also raised his self-esteem. He tells how he joined the Black Movement and discovered his Afro-Brazilian identity through capoeira. An influential Brazilian myth links capoeira to a legendary Angolan game called swallowing. Through exchanges between capoeira and swallowing in remote villages in southern Angola, Cobra and his friends begin to understand the affinities and differences between the combat games played on both sides of the Atlantic.
