CCCADI Launches Emergency Relief Fund for Caribbean Artists & Cultural Workers

Last week, we responded to the devastating impact Hurricane Fiona made in Puerto Rico and neighboring islands. We called on our community to research and support grassroots organizations responding to the needs of the people and to join us in discussing the ways we can combat the failing governing systems that contribute to storms becoming disasters. As we continue trying to support a just response for impacted communities in the Caribbean, we turn our attention to the artists and cultural workers that have been affected.

As an organization dedicated to advancing racial and social justice through arts and culture, we understand the importance of artists and cultural workers as essential agents for the sustainability and empowerment of communities. In the wake of Hurricane Fiona, and in accordance with our mission, we have created the CCCADI Emergency Relief Fund for Caribbean Artists and Cultural Workers. This fund has been designed to aid Caribbean-based cultural workers and artists, primarily those racialized as Black, who are struggling after the impact of Hurricane Fiona.

We invite our community to take action in two ways:

  1. Donate. This fund is powered by CCCADI with the support of artists and other arts and culture organizations, and YOU. A contribution of any amount will help us reach more artists and cultural workers who are historically excluded from rapid relief responses.

  2. Spread the word. Share the application for CCCADI’s emergency relief with artists in need and/or artist collectives that may be connected to those that have been impacted by Fiona. Understanding that access to internet connectivity and information may be limited, CCCADI will accept applications submitted on someone’s behalf.

It is our belief that as one Diasporic community, we have a responsibility to one another. Join us in empowering the creators and keepers of our beauty, joy and culture.

On October 6, 2022, a fundraiser in support of the CCCADI Emergency Relief Fund for Artists and Cultural Workers will take place at City Winery in New York City. The event will feature a talented line-up of musical performances. Learn more and purchase your tickets here.
