Join this BOOMbastik group of Diaspora women comic-creating geniuses for a dynamic virtual conversation about their trajectories in a primarily white male-dominated industry. The conversation with The Color of Power artist, Alitha Martinez, and noted Marvel Comics writer, Gabby Rivera, will be moderated by voiceover artist, and journalist Angélique Roché.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS
Alitha Evelyn Martinez
Alitha Evelyn Martinez is the Eisner Award-winningAward winning artist of the Black Panther: World of Wakanda series. Her professional career began in 1999 penciling Iron Man for Marvel Entertainment. Since then, she has worked on X-Men: Black Sun; Marvel Age Fantastic Four; Black Panther and Black Panther: World of Wakanda; X-Men Gold Annual; Moon Girl, Mark Morales Spiderman, and Fearless; Voltron; NBC’s Heroes; New 52 Bat Girl; Archie Comic’s New Crusaders and Riverdale; and WWE Superstar, WWE Slam City, and Barbie for Paper Cutz. Larger projects that required more than just penciling and inking include graphic novels like Vampire: My Boyfriend Bites; Kung Fu Masters; Quest for Dragon Mountain for Lerner Publications; also, political cartooning for the New York Post. She also works on her creator-owned titles Yume and Ever, and Foreign, which is published through her company, Ariotstorm Productions, LLC. Current projects include Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur for Marvel and Humanoid’s new American title, Omni.
Gabby Rivera
Gabby Rivera is a Bronx-born, queer Puerto Rican author on a mission to create the wildest, most fun stories ever. She’s the first Latina to write for Marvel Comics, penning the solo series America about America Chavez, a portal-punching queer Latina powerhouse. Rivera’s critically acclaimed debut novel Juliet Takes a Breath was called “f*cking outstanding” by Roxane Gay and was re-published in September 2019 by Penguin Random House. Currently, Gabby is the writer and creator of b.b. free, a new original comic series with BOOM! Studios. Stay tuned for her podcast, joy revolution coming in 2020! When not writing, Gabby speaks on her experiences as a queer Puerto Rican from the Bronx, an LGBTQ youth advocate, and the importance of prioritizing joy in QTPOC communities at events across the country. Gabby makes magic on both coasts, currently residing in California. She writes for all the sweet baby queers and her mom.
Angélique Roché
Angélique Roché is a professional host, moderator, voiceover artist, journalist, and content creator. As a writer and photographer, Angélique has contributed to NBC News, Black Girl Nerds, Syfy Wire, Marvel.com, and Rewire News. She is currently the host of Marvel Entertainment's Marvel's Voices podcast, an on-air contributor and host of the podcast Geeksplain for Syfy Wire, and New York Public Radio’s live monthly podcast Very Biggest Questions at The Greene Space. She also co-hosts The Radical Geeks and The Women of Marvel Podcast. In addition, Angélique has done work as a part-time host and voice-over artist at SiriusXM Progress and voiceover work for Vox Creative. Angélique has received a number of awards including the EnVest Foundation’s National Capital Region’s 40 Under 40, Apex Society’s 30 Under 30, and the Southern University Law Center’s Young Trailblazer Award. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, the LA State Bar Association, and the American Inns of Court.
